Optical Fiber Receivers Now Also for Industrial Applications in TO46
Jena, February 22, 2005: MAZeT GmbH, a leading provider of electronic designs, ASICs and sensors, is presenting its extended portfolio of standard application products on stand 458, hall 12 during the Embedded World in Nürnberg. Responding to the huge demand by users, the newly developed optical fiber receiver will be available as a sample design product in the TO46 package from April and can be delivered as a standard component in volume lots beginning in last of 2005.

High sensitivity (0 to -30.2 dBm) and a bandwidth from 0 to 25 MHz are the distinguishing features of this component. The receiver component has been developed for operation in industrial field bus applications that use optical fibers for transmitting information. In terms of design specs it provides four optical windows, thus allowing a wide range of applications. Initial targeted applications are interbus and profibus couplers.

The optical fiber receiver from MAZeT is intended for optical data transfer systems using 980/1000µm polymer optical fibers (POF), 200/230µm HCS fibers, gradient index glass fibers of 50/125µm or 62.5/125µm fiber diameter respectively and single mode glass fibers of 9/125 µm. It can be used for wavelengths of 520nm, 660nm, 850nm and 1300nm with data rates from 0 to 25 Mbit/s, thus almost covering the entire range of industrial field bus communication scenarios. With a great optical dynamic range from 0dBm to –30.2dBm, it is distinguished from established standard receivers. Another outstanding feature is that it provides transmission lengths which are significantly extended, for example, to 100m for polymer fibers (650nm standard LED), to 150m with 520nm LEDs and to more than 5000m for multi mode glass fibers with 850nm standard LEDs.
