MAZeT develops electronics for Carl Zeiss AG microscope

MAZeT GmbH, a leading provider of electronic designs, ASICs and sensors, is presenting its latest system electronic developments at the Embedded World in Nürnberg in February. Among the highlights on the MAZeT stand (458 in hall 12) will be the electronic outfit for a new generation of high performance Carl Zeiss AG SteREO Lumar.V12 and SteREO Discovery.V12 stereo microscopes. a product which has been entirely created within MAZeT’s design foundry. “The innovative approaches MAZeT has adopted for these electronic and software projects are what account for the brilliant optical properties that make these stereo microscopes fit for exacting routine and research jobs, offering maximum operator convenience and superior performance features at the same time", explains Dr. Fred Grunert, the CEO of MAZeT GmbH. "Another proof of the trust which ZEISS places in the excellent skills and the high quality standards of MAZeT is that we have been contracted to provide full commercial delivery and support services for the electronic part of ZEISS SteREO microscopes. This design order from Carl Zeiss AG constitutes a major milestone. It documents in an impressive way that MAZeT is an established provider of electronic design and manufacturing services in the market."

In addition to an operating and control unit and a CAN-based communication bus, the extendible modular system concept for this microscope project includes a great number of sensors and actuator assemblies, as well as motors to perform focusing and variation of the imaging scale, sensors to detect filter colours and other functions. The patented SyCoP (System Control Panel) is a novel user-friendly operation-control element that works based on a 32-bit XScale processor and Windows CE. MAZeT’s scope of services covers everything from the initial system design to mock-up trials, development of performance specifications, full hardware and software design cycles right through to the prototyping stage, manufacturing and delivery of a commercial product. To guarantee consistent quality of future component deliveries, MAZeT has developed special factory-test procedures and introduced these into the production schedule for all types of components.
